Armenian Energy and Natural Resources Minister Armen Movsisyan
referred at the cabinet sitting today to the current situation in the
"Nairit" plant, saying that currently it produces chloroprene rubbers
and latexes. About 3074 people are working in the plant. After the
2006-2007 privatization, the biggest volume of products was registered
in 2007-2008. The minister said the production of chloroprene rubber
has become complicated after the increase of prices of oil products
during the global crisis when the whole chemistry sphere appeared
in collapse.
Movsisyan said new development program has been worked out according
to which the plant needs new international operators. "Investments
amounting to 400-500 million USD are necessary. Besides we need
such operators who will be able in today's market deal with such big
financial investments", the minister said, adding that the deadline
of the tender is June 15.
Referring to the talks that the equipment is being taken out from
"Nairit" without any grounds, he noted that there are equipment of
4 generations the majority of which are morally outdated and cannot
be used in technological processes. The set up commission checks the
condition of the devices and makes corresponding decisions. But till
now the plant owes its employees four month salaries and the foreign
commitments of the plant make 120-130 million US dollars.
The minister disappointed those thinking that the main shares of
"Nairit" are connected with the RA authorities.
Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said the best way to combat such
comments is ensuring transparency. "We have informed international
organizations, the IMF about the contest and asked to be engaged
in saving the plant from the current situation", the head of the
government said.
