TER-PETROSYAN TO BE ANC'S ONLY LEADER IN VISIBLE FUTURE - ACTIVIST

Levon Ter-Petrosyan seems to be the best and the only leader of
the opposition bloc in the visible future, says an activist of the
opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC).
Speaking to Capital daily, a former political prisoner and the
editor-in-chief of the opposition-run Haykakan Zhamanak newspaper,
Nikol Pashinyan, denied the recent rumors that he is going to replace
Ter-Petrosyan as the leader of the popular movement.
He said ANC's success is largely due to the fact that it has a leader
like Ter-Petrosyan.
"I consider myself a member of Ter-Petrosyan's team," he said.
Referring to the March 2008 post-electoral unrest that followed a
disputed presidential election in Armenia, Pashinyan said ANC was a
unique political force that managed to survive that blow, becoming
the only real alternative to the ruling regime.
"The ANC did that, and it was really a great success," he said,
adding that the central opposition force's success was largely due
to Ter-Petrosyan's exceptional ability to perceive the political
situation and political nuances.
Pashinyan, who was released recently under the parliament-declared
amnesty, finds that Ter-Petrosyan will remain the ANC leader for a
long time to come.
"As for myself, I guide myself by the following principle: to replace
the ambition of being a leader with the willingness of being the last.
I stick to the idea and I am willing to be the last member of the
[Armenian National] Congress," he added.
