This year for the first time national prize giving ceremony will be
organized in Armenia. Director of the Armenian National Cinema Center
Gevorg Gevorgyan said at a news conference today that negotiations are
underway over the issue, the contest is in its preliminary phase, a
foundation is being created, nominations are being selected, issues on
what films may partake and who may present films are being discussed,
what awards will be received, and other organizational issues are
being discussed.
The initial name of the prize giving ceremony is "Pepo". Gevorgyan
though said in case of interesting proposals it may change. "We were
searching the name for long time: it must be available, clear for the
pronunciation of foreigners. The name must also be symbolizing", the
director said, adding that the event must be something like "Armenian
Oskar". "We will try to conduct it on a very beautiful and high level.
It will essentially differ from the events conducted in Armenia till
now", Gevorgyan said, pointing out that the organization of this
event will be determining for its continuation.
