GEORGIAN-ARMENIANS ASK CATHOLICOS TO RAISE CHAKHALYAN'S ISSUE IN JAVAKHK

A group of Georgian-Armenians have voiced concerns over the Georgian
authorities' persecutions against Vahagn Chakalyan, an activists from
Javakhk, who was sent to jail for his pro-Armenian activities.
They have written a to Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II (who
is planning a visit to the Armenian populated Georgian region),
asking him him to raise Chakhalyan's issue at meetings with Georgian
Patriarch Ilia II, and government officials.
The particularly call on the Catholicos to discuss with the Georgian
authorities the illegal arrest and trial of the ethnic Armenian public
and political figure who was subjected to political persecutions for
his struggle towards the maintenance of the Armenian Apostolic Church
and Armenian cultural and linguistic values in Javakhk.
The letter was signed by over 1,200 Armenians from the districts of
Akhakakalaki, Ninotsminda, Aspindza, Borjomi and Tsalka. The text
with the attached signatures was sent to the Holy See of St Echmiadzin
on Thursday.
