YEREVAN, June 10. / ARKA /. The introduction of progressive tax on
land will contribute to the development of Armenian agriculture,
Tatul Manaserian, head Alternative think-tank, said today.
"This tax should apply, in the first place, to big landowners,"
said Manaserian to journalists. According to him, a lot of land in
the country is not currently cultivated.
"We live in a democratic country and can not just take away land
from negligent owners who buy it to keep for their children and
grandchildren. But we can introduce a progressive land tax to make
them pay for it if they do not cultivate their land," he said.
He noted that given that it will not be profitable to keep in store
the unused land, and the owners will either have to cultivate it or
sell to those who know how to do it.
