Baku, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijani foreign minister Elmar Mammadyarov
met with Swedish counterpart Carl Bildt.
At a briefing following the meeting Mammadyarov informed that during
the Moscow meeting held a day before with Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian
with mediation of Russian FM Sergey Lavrov it was achieved an agreement
on several issues.
"The Armenian and Azerbaijani FMs' Moscow meeting under the mediation
of Russia enable to continue peace talks on settlement of Garabagh
conflict on the basis of the principles of peace treaty signing.
During negotiations on some issues we have reached an agreement,
but some issues still remain open. Following the meeting we'll make
reports for the presidents, who will possibly discuss these issues at
a meeting in Kazan. If the agreement is reached during the upcoming
meeting in Kazan, as in the previously held talks in Sochi, a peace
agreement may be signed," Mammadyarov emphasized.
FM Bildt, in turn, noted that his visit was delayed somewhat due to
events in Libya, but this visit had become even more favorable.
"During the meeting we discussed the results of negotiations with
the FMs of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia held in Moscow. We find it
unacceptable the further stay of refugees in such difficult situation,
and feel the urgency to resolve this issue, especially since there
are many examples in international practice in dealing with similar
problems," he said and brought South Tyrol and other countries as
an example.
According to FM Bildt, during today's meeting with Mammadyarov it was
also discussed the progress of negotiations of Azerbaijan and the EU
on an association agreement.
"One of the main provisions of this agreement is to maintain the
territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. Implementation of this document
contributes to the modernization of Azerbaijan," commented FM Bildt
on the significance of this agreement for Azerbaijan.
