DEMOCRATIC LAWMAKER'S RESOLUTION PUSHES OBAMA TO RECOGNIZE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE
Los Angeles Times
June 15 2011
U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Burbank) this week introduced a House
resolution that would call on President Obama to officially recognize
the Armenian genocide as having occurred at the hands of Ottoman Turks.
Similar efforts have repeatedly stalled or failed under pressure from
the White House and lawmakers who fear such a resolution would harm
strategic ties with Turkey, which has argued with the historical
accuracy of calling the death of more than 1 million Armenians
beginning in 1915 the result of genocide.
In announcing the bipartisan resolution with Rep. Robert Dold, a
Republican from Illinois, Schiff says the facts of the genocide are
well documented and ~Snon-negotiable,~T according to 818 Now.
Congress never voted on Schiff's resolution last year.
