Political scientist Sergey Shakaryants is looking forward t\o the
outcome of today's meeting between the Russian and Iranian Presidents
in Astana. He is confident the meeting is directly linked to the
process of settlement of the Karabakh conflict.
Military expert Artsrun Hovhannisyan is confident that Armenia
is capable of ensuring its own security and relying upon others
is incorrect. At this point the expert sees no danger for Armenia
connected with the deployment of peacekeeping forces.
"However, the issue will become realistic in the future, when the
terms and form of organization of the referendum on Karabakh's status
are determined," Hovhannisyan told a press conference today.
To what extent is the conclusion of a "roadmap" possible? "Here I
trust Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian. He has clearly stated that
the first round of talks is over and we are expecting the start of
the second stage, which NKR should definitely participate in. This
means that things are going to be decided in the second stage," the
political scientist said, assuming that discussions on the political
issues of organization of the referendum should already start. "This
is an issue to be solved by Karabakh, not Armenia," he stated.
