NATIONAL HERO YURA POGHOSYAN'S 50TH ANNIVERSARY MARKED AT YSU

The RA and NKR National Hero Yura Poghosyan's 50th anniversary was
marked today at Yerevan State University. The National Hero's friends
and relatives, as well as a number of students partook in the event.
>From the very start of the Artsakh Movement Yura Poghosyan was
engaged in developing weapons and using them in practice: he was in
the epicenter of battles. In 1991 he enlisted the NK Defense Army
and then became the commander of one of the first armored cars,
taken from the opponent.
"Such a machine will not be given to an unskilled specialist, however
Yura, not having higher education, had an exclusive capacity as an
engineer and fulfilled the responsibility skillfully," RA Defense
Minister Seyran Ohanyan said at the event.
The National Hero's sister said her brother was fond of technical
instruments from his childhood. "During the protest rallies many
people were claiming that everything will finish just the way it
started, but it seems he predicted that a war will break out and he
was getting prepared for it," Irina Arakelyan said.
"The formation of not only our state, but also the army is connected
with the deeds of heroes, such as Yura Poghosyan," Defense Minister
Seyran Ohanyan said.
During the event the Armenian State Chamber Choir performed and a
film on Yura Poghosyan's life and activity, prepared by the Defense
Ministry's PR Department, was presented.
