WHEN DID GEORGIANS LIVE IN AKHTALA AND KOBAIR?

Member of Parliament Shirak Torosyan, Republican, notes that the
proposal to set up a Georgian Diocese in Armenia in return for setting
up of an Armenian Apostolic Diocese in Georgia is unfair.
Torosyan says there is a big Armenian community in Georgia part of
which lives in their historical homeland.
According to Torosyan, the issue is under discussion but it will run
into a deadlock. As to Georgia's claims that there are a number of
Georgian churches in Armenia, Torosyan says, "There are Chalcedonic
churches in Armenia because there used to be an Armenian Chalcedonic
community, and those churches are not Georgian".
"When did Georgians live in Akhtala and Kobair if they say the churches
are Georgian?" Torosyan asks.
Torosyan says it is unacceptable that the Georgian government intends
to set up a Diocese in Lori without discussing this issue with the
Armenian government, while the issue of establishing a Diocese in
Javakhk has matured for a long time.
