Colombian writer Garcia Marquez officially invited to Armenia
Armenian Ministry of Culture has officially invited Colombian eminent
writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez to Armenia, Ministry speaker Gayane
Durgaryan told Panorama.am.
An initiative group is created in Facebook social network which aims
to invite great writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez to Armenia. The group
has applied to Hasmik Pogosyan, Minister of Culture of Armenia with an
official letter for the invitation, which reads.
`Respected Minister, we are informed that UNESCO has granted Yerevan
as Book Capital in 2012. In this respect we'd like Armenia to host
world-known Columbian writer, Nobel Prize winner Gabriel Garcia
Marquez. The initiative group has more than 2500 members. Now we apply
to You and ask You to send an official invitation to Garcia Marquez.'
Writer, translator Vardan Fereshetyan has hailed the initiative, but
is little hopeful Marquez will come: `He has some health problems, he
may not come. But he has recently visited Moscow, hence, maybe he'll
come,' writer told Panorama.am.
