Political scientist Fikrat Sadikhov commented on the statements of
western diplomats.
During discussions in the Committee on International Relations of the
European Parliament that were held on 15 June, a number of officials,
including high ranking American and European diplomats stressed the
need for a closer involvement of EU in resolution of the Nagorno
Karabakh conflict.
Fikrat Sadikhov commented on the statements of western diplomats to
Bakinskiy Rabochiy.
"It would be better if the United States and EU really become active
players in the South Caucasus, particularly, in the resolution of
Nagorno Karabakh conflict. Unfortunately, for many years the West has
been demonstrating a contradictory stance when, on the one hand, it
supports the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and on the other hand
it continues flirting with Armenia and financing Karabakh separatists.
"We would like to see US and EU take a clearer stance without any
dualities, especially because the West has many interests in the South
Caucasus and it mostly depends on Azerbaijan whether these interests
will be met", the political scientist said.
"Here we have to note that Russia also has its interests in the South
Caucasus. Today Russia seeks for consensus and a balanced stance in
Karabakh conflict complicated with its ally ties with Armenia.
However, the reality is that Armenia has discredited itself as a state,
since it is a poor state formation that feeds on foreign donations,
while the power is usurped by the criminal and chauvinist 'Karabakh
clan", he said.
