An extraordinary session of the Armenian parliament has passed today
in the third and final reading a bill on fees for parking of motor
vehicles. A deputy mayor of Yerevan, Kamo Areyan, said the bill
regulates relations concerning payment of parking fees, determines
the circle of persons who are to pay these fees, sets their rights
and responsibilities, also the size of payments and the liability
for failure to meet these requirements.
Areyan said any area is used currently for parking which is often
illegal and can lead to accidents and inconvenience for citizens.
According to him, to avoid such situations, the law allows city
administrative districts to themselves determine parking areas in
their communities, as well as the size of the fee. He said the size
will be depending on the location of parking - it will be higher in
downtown and lower in suburbs.
He also noted that the law sets restrictions on the size of fees. In
particular, the maximum fee for one hour parking will be 500 drams,
and 3000 drams for a day, 6000 drams for a week and 30,000 for one
month. The annual cost will be 120,000 drams.
"If a motor vehicle is parked for more than 48 hours without payment
of fee, such a car will be towed to special sites until fees and
fines are paid,' said Areyan.
According to him, administrative districts will be allowed to transfer
the obligation to monitor the parking to operators, selected in a
tender. There will also be restricted areas for paid parking. ( $1 -
373.62 AMD).
