"On June 24 the President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan
and President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev will hold
a meeting in Kazan with the participation of the President of the
Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvede. The meeting is expected to play
a landmark role in the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict,"
the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
"We expect Yerevan and Baku to positively respond to the joint
statement issued by the Presidents of Russia, France and the United
States in Deauville, which calls on the leaders of Armenia and
Azerbaijan to demonstrate political will and complete the discussions
on the Basic Principles of Karabakh conflict settlement during the
meeting in Kazan.
The document to be considered in Kazan is a result of a serious
joint work of the parties and the Minsk Group co-chairing countries
and provides for a real basis for the preparation of a comprehensive
Peace Treaty.
We hope the parties will come to an agreement for the sake of peace,
prosperity and development of the whole region," the statement reads.
