The State Department is disappointed with the results of the meeting
between the Armenian, Azerbaijani, and Russian Presidents in Kazan,
State Department spokesperson, Victoria Nuland said, according to
the State Department official website.
V. Nuland noted that "the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan did
not manage to agree on the basic principles when they met in Kazan.
Nevertheless, in their joint statement with President Medvedev, they
stressed they had improved their understanding on a number of issues,
agreed to keep working on the basic principles, and to meet again in
the future, but I must say it is disappointing."
The tripartite meeting between the Presidents of Armenia, Azerbaijan,
and Russia in Kazan finished without reaching an agreement on the basic
principles of the Nagorno Karabakh settlement, but the sides have
made progress towards this goal, as they noted in a joint statement
after the Kazan meeting.
