Senior fellow at Saint Petersburg State University Alexander
Sotnichenko said the U.S., EU and Russia do not offer certain scenarios
for the Karabakh conflict settlement, around which further dialogue
could be constructed.
According to him, the status quo is advantageous for everyone.
"It is important for Europe that there is not a real war between the
countries. The U.S. works with both Armenia and Azerbaijan, while
Moscow also has good relations with the two countries," the Russian
expert said.
As for repetition of the Arab events in Armenia, Sotnichenko noted
that there are factors, which are against a similar scenario
"First, it should be noted that the Armenian elite has managed to
establish rotation recently. The same person does not rule the country
for 20-30 years, as is the case with Egypt, Libya or Tunisia. Second,
the Armenian people in any case will be united around the idea of
Karabakh's protection from the potential Azerbaijani aggression. These
two factors will prevent similar developments in Armenia," said
Sotnichenko.
The Russian expert added that any meetings between the Azerbaijani and
Armenian Presidents are already a breakthrough, Zerkalo Azerbaijani
paper quoted Sotnichenko as saying.
