OPPOSITION MASS MEDIA "DISMISS" COMMANDER OF ARMENIAN POLICE

The problem of dismissal of the commander of the Armenian Police Alik
Sargsyan was again touched upon yesterday.
As the opposition "Zhamanak" newspaper says, the authorities again
started discussing the problem of Sargsyan's resignation. Sargsyan
is expected to be appointed to the post of vice-premier replacing
Territorial Administration Minister Armen Gevorkyan.
The newspaper did not manage to clarify where Gevorkyan will be
transferred to. As for the position of the commander of the Police,
Emergency Situation Minister Armen Yeritsyan and Shirak governor
Ashot Giziryan were mentioned like possible candidates to the position.
To note, the rumors about Sargsyan's resignation have been spread for
a long period of time. The problem was again risen by mass media after
yesterday's clash near the Government House, when the leader of the
parliamentary faction Stepan Safaryan publicly demanded
Sargsyan's resignation.
