The community gathers to support the Center
PASADENA - With a spirit of unity, camaraderie and purpose, more than
650 Armenian Americans gathered on February 26, 2011 to support the
new Pasadena Armenian Center. The gathering, marked by patriotic songs
sung by Karnig Sarkissian, drew a broad array of community members who
are committed to the capital campaign begun to support the new
Pasadena Armenian Center.
`We are building our future,' remarked Manoug Joukhajian, chairman of
the local Pasadena chapter of the Armenian Cultural Foundation. `This
event in support of our new Pasadena Armenian Center has united our
community and has created the foundation for a better future for all
Armenian Americans in the City of Pasadena,' he added.
The dinner and concert in support of the new Pasadena Armenian Center
was unique in that the crowd was diverse, with an equal share of young
adults, baby-boomers and more senior community members. The event
began with inspirational remarks by Hovig Saliba, a longtime community
leader. He reminded the large crowd that Pasadena Armenian Americans
have a rich and strong history of supporting their community center.
The new Pasadena Armenian Center has drawn praise from a number of
Armenian Americans for serving the diverse needs of the community. On
any given day, members of the Armenian Youth Federation, Homenetmen,
and several other grassroots organizations use the center. On Friday
nights the center serves as the nerve center for over 50 members of
the local ARF Badenagan Pasadena `Nigol Touman' Chapter. On Sundays
and during the week, the new Pasadena Armenian Center hosts over 100
members of the local Homenetmen `Azadamard' Chapter.
The mission of the Pasadena Armenian Center is to serve the dynamic
and diverse Armenian American community in the City of Pasadena. A
number of distinguished community organizations are based out of the
Pasadena Armenian Center. These organizations include, but are not
limited to, the Armenian Youth Federation `Nigol Touman' Chapter, the
Armenian Relief Society `Sosse' Chapter, the Hamazkayin `Shahan
Shahnour' Chapter, the Homenetmen `Azadamard' Chapter, and the
Armenian Cultural Foundation, among others.
Additional information regarding the Pasadena Armenian Center,
situated at 2242 East Foothill Boulevard, can be secured by visiting
