Haykakan Zhamanak: Authorities showing off PACE co-rapporteurs
10:33 - 26.03.11
The paper claims it has learned that the authorities are planning to
shift part of the responsibility of the 1 March 2008 events on
Hovhannes Tamamyan, the former chief of the investigations department
of the police who was fired last month and has already been arrested
over a corruption case.
Further, it claims that its source at the police said that Armenia's
authorities want with that move to show the co-rapporteurs of the
Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on Armenian issues,
John Prescott and Axel Fisher, that they are punishing those
responsible for the 1 March 2008 events.
The same source, the paper continues, claimed that Hovhannes Tamamyan
was promised only a two-year sentence. It also says that at least
three people have already testified to that case - MP Levon Sargsyan
and two high-ranking police officers.
