La Crescenta, CA.- In the spirit of " The Year of the Armenian Child " the
Students of Lark Conservatory and the Crescenta Valley Armenian Church Youth
Group will present an afternoon of Armenian poems and music and a video
presentation dedicated to this special occasion on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at 1
pm, following the church services, at Armenian Apostolic Church of Crescenta
Valley, located at Western Prelacy's " Dikran and Zarouhi Der Ghazarian "
Hall, at 6252 Honolulu Ave., in La Crescenta, California.
On January 1, 2011, His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Great House of
Cilicia, had designated 2011 as the " Year of the Armenian Child." In his
Pontifical Message His Holiness has noted, "...childhood is a critical
stage, during which one's character is built and the future course of one's
life is determined. The Armenian children are the children of the nation and
church. Therefore, let's jointly take the Armenian children under our care,
wipe the tears of the Armenian children, relieve their pain, minimize their
suffering, and in practical terms contribute to their sound physical and
moral, spiritual and national growth and education. Let us not ever forget
Christ's commandment: ' And who so shall receive one such little child in my
name receiveth me" (Matthew 18:5)'''
Lark Musical Society is dedicated to nurturing the Armenian musical arts
within a matrix composed of Armenian culture and Western classical music.
Under the auspices of Lark and its dedicated director Mr. Vatche
Barsoumian, these goals are realized through three independent but
integrated areas of activity: Education, Performance and Publication.
Through these activities, Lark helps to promote a deeper understanding of
Armenian music from local to international levels, shapes a new generation
of professional Armenian musicians and music lovers, and, in integrating
these within the broader Los Angeles-area music community, ensures the
preservation of our artistic past and the perpetuation of our cultural
patrimony. The Lark Musical Society supports the "Lark Conservatory" whose
students participate, throughout their matriculation at the academy, in
various public functions such as the present program.
Approximately 25 to 30 Armenian students, raging from 13 to 17 years of age,
attend CV Church's weekly Bible Study sessions in La Crescenta, under the
tutelage of Very Reverend Father Barthev Gulumian. The Church Youth Group
will demonstrate a brief video presentation on the Ten Commandments. Through
a series of short vignettes involving the teens, the significance as well as
relevance of the Ten Commandments, as how they can be applied to real life
and daily situations, will be conveyed to the audience.
The program, "An Afternoon of Armenian Poems and Music" Dedicated to "The
Year of the Armenian Child" is to inspire and appeal to both young and older
audiences alike and therefore the general public is invited to attend to
this special celebration and public service event.
The admission is free. There will be a free reception before start of the
program.
