The Thessaloniki International Open "Alexander the Great", part of
the Games Festival 2011, was played from April 25 to May 1 at the
Conference Center of Grand Hotel Palace in Thessaloniki.
Georgia-based Armenian GM Giorgi Bagaturov took a clear first place
in the Open A with a key last round victory against IM Jordan Ivanov.
Bagaturov gained 7.5 points to narrowly escape the earlier leader
FM Anastasios Pavlidis and Greek national player GM Athanasios
Mastrovasilis, gamesfestival.chessdom.com reported.
This is Bagaturov's second trophy in Thessaloniki as he also won the
2009 tournament.
