Haigazian University's 55th Anniversary:
Anna Mayilian and her Ethno Vocal Trio's Unique Performance
Beirut, 04/05/2011 - On Wednesday, April 27, 2011, Anna Mayilian and her
Ethno Vocal Trio performed a concert at the First Armenian Evangelical
Church on the occasion of Haigazian University's 55th Anniversary.
In attendance were more than 400 guests, including government officials,
religious personalities, diplomats, educators, and musicians.
The songs, covering a time span of 15 centuries, included a selection of
classical-spiritual-popular/ethnographic songs which echo the Armenian
Genocide as well as the Easter resurrection.
Expressing the feelings of the Armenian nation through music, the
audience was moved by such classical pieces as "Walk and Stroll" and
"The Crane" by Gomidas as well as the ever popular "Glory to Jerusalem."
The Ethno Vocal Trio was founded in 2006 by Anna Mayilian, Honored
Artist of the Republic of Armenia. Mayilian studied piano and vocal
performance under notable European instructors and is an accomplished
soloist at the Cathedral Church of Kotayk Diocese. Having undertaken
numerous concert tours in Armenia and abroad, Mayilian enjoys performing
various genres but mainly focuses on Armenian music. Most recently, she
has performed with the Ethno Vocal Trio in France and Croatia.
Alina Avakian and Hasmig Zakarian are the two other members of the Trio.
Avakian, a recognized soloist in the Tatoul Altunian Song-Dance State
Ensemble since 2003, has dedicated herself to Armenian national music. A
member of the Ethno Vocal Trio since its founding, Zakarian has
performed in various musical concerts and national festivals, sharing
her passion for the Armenian and Western European romance genre.
Elen Giragosian, an award-winning pianist and a graduate of the Gomidas
State Conservatory, accompanied the vocalists as well as playing a
couple of solo pieces for this event.
After a standing ovation, President Paul Haidostian thanked God for the
55 year history of the university, and the revival of the Armenian
people.
