Former member of the Political Bureau of the `Republic' Party,
political scientist Suren Surenyans says the relations between the
authorities and the opposition form a new political reality. The
parties are taking steps to meet each other, but this does not
comprise a deal, not yet a dialogue, he said.
According to him, the authorities and the Armenian National congress
have considerably softened their positions and have decided to
substitute contradiction with competition.
`The authorities have come to understand that they will not be able to
neutralize Levon Ter-Petrosyan and his team at the forthcoming
elections, and the opposition has realized that its demand for snap
elections is unreal,' Surenyants says.
According to the analysts, it's the idea of dialogue that excludes the
possibility of snap elections.
`The parties will actually be trying to come to an agreement regarding
the elections and thus discharge the political situation,' political
scientist Yervand Bozoyan said.
Surenyants is confident that the parties will not lose their
electorate as a result of change of behavior. According to his
assessment, in case the dialogue fails, the parties will return to the
point they have started from.
