The Armenian and Russian Academies of Science and the Roskosmos - the
Russian Federal Space Agency - are launching a new program, under which
the infrastructures of Byurakan Observatory will be modernized, turning
it into one of the best research centers of the world. The new program
was discussed today at the Armenian National Academy of Sciences.
According to Igor Molotov, coordinator of the International Scientific
Optical Network for Space (ISON), as a result of that cooperation
the Byurakan Observatory will become the 24th member of the ISON.
The infrastructures of the Observatory will be modernized to allow
studying the space objects, particularly the ones that are dangerous
for cosmonautics and space research.
According to Radik Martirosyan, President of the Armenian National
Academy of Sciences, the project will be of great scientific and
financial importance. New jobs will be created for young specialists.
