With the initiative of Pera Khorio and Nisou teacher Levon
Kazandjian, the Gymnasium of Pera Khorio and Nisou commemorated the
96th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide with an event that took
place on Tuesday 11 May, at 11:00 am under the high auspices of the
President of the Cyprus Parliament Marios Garoyian, who was also the
main speaker of the event.
The commemoration was attended by the Armenian MP Vartkes Mahdessian,
Nareg school Principal Vera Tahmazian, Hokapartsoutiun and PA members
of Nareg, Ministry officials and 500 students.
Soprano Sona Gargaloyian, the SIPAN dance ensemble, the school choir
and X-Factor star Hovig performed in the cultural program.
After the event, participants were talking about one of the most moving
and well organised Genocide commemorations ever organised in Cyprus.
Gibrahayer have learnt that members of other Greek Cypriot schools
have expressed their wish to organise similar events in the future.
What better way to promote our cause and our community to our fellow
citizens.
