700 Armenian Cypriot voters gathered at an unprecedented election
gathering for Armenian MP Vartkes Mahdessian, sending a clear message
for next week's election outcome for victory.
In his short speech, Vartkes Mahdessian outlined the core of his
activities and said that as a man of few words and more of deeds, he
would deliver his election promises, just like he had in the previous
five years.
He continued by saying that he had tried to solve the problems of our
community to the best of his abilities and he had denied assistance
to no one. "My program is familiar to you all ... let us all continue
together" he declared.
Amid the applause of an enthusiastic crowd of supporters, a cultural
program with Gore Melian and X-Factor star Hovig followed.
What originally started as an election gathering, soon turned into a
celebration, with the OCCHIO Lounge rocking to the sounds of Armenian
kochari until the early hours of the morning.
In the election gathering of Dr. Antranik Ashdjian on Monday -
attended by around 170 community members - the evaluation of the state
of affairs of the community was quite different, where SD Henchagian
Party representative Hagop Dikranian, together with their new-found
ally Dr. Antranik Ashdjian, under the slogan of "the future belongs
to everyone", drew a gruesome picture of the Gibrahay community and
unleashed a slanderous and destructive attack on the five-year work
of Armenian MP Vartkes Mahdessian.
In the Armenian-language newspaper Artsakank - that circulated the
following day - Chief Editor Arto Tavitian had this to say to his
former party comrade Dr. Antranik Ashdjian
