A documentary on the dismantlement of a Kars-based monument symbolizing
Turkish-Armenian friendship will be screened at the Golden Orange
annual film festival in Turkey.
Speaking to Turkish press, the director of the film Mujdat Gezen said
the film - titled "First and Last" - ends with a scene that shows
the decapitation of the monument of Humanity and Peace.
Gezen also spoke critical of the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip
Erdogan who had called the monument "monstrosity" and ordered to pull
it down.
"What does it mean 'I don't like the monument'? That's a display of
fascism ... And I don't like the prime minister, but do I call him a
'monster'?" said Gezen.
The dismantlement of the statue - a 30-meter (100-foot) unfinished
concrete statue - started last month and is still underway.
