YEREVAN. - Liberation war in Karabakh did not aim to seize Azerbaijan,
but to liberate Nagorno-Karabakh, ensuring security of its citizens
and forcing the enemy to peace, Armenian Defense Minister Seyran
Ohanyan said in the interview to Public Television of Armenia.
Ohanyan commented on the opinion that the ceasefire of 1994 allowed
Azerbaijan to avoid serious loses, win time to prepare for military
provocations, and stop Armenian military success.
"It is necessary to realize what kind of task was set by Karabakh
armed forces and how the objective was reached," Ohanyan added. "The
liberators of Karabakh did not have an objective to seize Azerbaijan.
Their goal was to liberate Nagorno-Karabakh, to ensure Karabakh
citizens' security and force the enemy to peace. Obviously, the
target was reached. The citizens of Karabakh have enjoyed legitimate
democratic right and ensure their progress. As for the opinion
that Azerbaijan has won time, it is naive to think that it was only
Azerbaijan that has won time." Ohanyan noted.
