YEREVAN, May 17. /ARKA/. Economic union in South Caucasus is possible
only in the presence of political will of all three countries, their
strategic partners and international organizations, said Director
of Research Center "Alternative" Tatul Manaseryan on Tuesday in the
conference "Caucasus-2010" in Yerevan.
For this purpose, the leaders of all three countries should understand
that the attempts to establish new strategic unions with developed
countries of far abroad or entering into the established unions,
including EU, failed as no developed country which is not integrated
in the regional economy, could manage to effectively integrate into
the world economy till now.
It is necessary to provide real military-political security for
long-expected and stable development taking into account the experience
of Europe after the World War II which served a reliable basis for
integration in Europe and later, establishment of EU.
"At present, cooperation can be based not only on the political, but
also economic security in the region, particularly paying attention
to general threats and possibilities of providing energy, food,
ecological and other forms of regional security by joint efforts",
said Manaseryan.
It is necessary also to use geo-political situation in the region,
particularly for strengthening strategic positions of all three
countries, especially with western countries, as well as for getting
foreign policy dividends.
