The Greek Parliament has declared May 19 the Day of Commemoration of
the Genocide against Pontian Greeks perpetrated by Turks. After the
Armenian Genocide of 1915 Young Turks continued the annihilation of
the Christian population of Turkey and massacred thousands of Pontian
Greeks in 1916.
According to the President of the Union of Greek NGOs of Armenia,
Arkady Ghukasyan, Pontian Greeks started speaking about the genocide
only decades after the crime.
Armenians and Greeks in different countries are trying to join
efforts today to make Turkey, the successor of the Ottoman Empire,
to recognize the crimes it has committed and return the cultural and
historic values to their real owners.
