Minister of Education and Higher Education Minister Ahmed Al-Mulaifi
KUWAIT, May 19 (KUNA) -- Minister of Education and Higher Education
Minister Ahmed Al-Mulaifi said on Thursday that education is the
best message that could be sent by mankind to the world, through the
exchange of cultures, which is the most sacred relationship between
the peoples.
Al-Mulaifi made the statement to the press last night after patronizing
the "Golden Jubilee - 50 years" celebration of the establishment of
the Armenian school in Kuwait, held in Kuwait University auditorium
with the attendance of former Head of the World Churches Council and
Catholics of the Armenian Orthodox Church of Cilicia in Lebanon Aram
I Kachichian and a number of ambassadors, and Ministry of Education
officials.
He added that the Armenian school represents the country's interest in
development, and opening the door for private education to participate
in the educational process in the country. He said the ministry did
not spare any effort to support this administration in achieving its
goal of expanding its services.
On the issue of Deputy Premier and Minister of State for Development
Affairs and Minister of State for Housing Affairs, Sheikh Ahmad
Al-Fahad Al-Sabah's call for investing in private education,
Al-Mulaifi said that supporting education in general is a major
part of the ministry's work in eliminating all obstacles facing the
private educational sector, which would in return reduce the cost of
private education.
Al-Mulaifi also referred to the large number of students in private
schools, stressing that this fact does not mean that public schools
are repellent, as many generations have graduated from the public
education system and have succeeded greatly in their lives. On the
other hand, Director of Al-Tathamin High school, Mona Al-Qallaf,
said in a speech during the ceremony, "We celebrate this year marking
50 years since the opening one of the most important educational
institutes in the State of Kuwait, which plays an important role in
education and teachers, under the strong belief that they play a role
in the county's development." Al-Qallaf said, "The Armenian people
have great history, as they faced challenges and stood strong in their
beliefs, they built churches where they held their religious rituals,
and maintained the Armenian language, which is an important pillar
of the community's strength." Meanwhile, Armenian School Director,
Manuel Manokien said that the Kuwaiti and Armenian people have joint
goals and similar sufferings. Highlighting the coinciding celebrations
of Kuwait marking its 50th anniversary of independence and the Armenian
school marking its 50th anniversary of establishment. He also praised
the warm hospitality of the Kuwaiti people, also remembering the
generosity of Sheikh Jaber Al-Abdullah who presented five thousand
rupees in contributing of establishing the Armenian school building.
He stressed that the aim of the school remains, "preparing a generation
of young men and women whom believe in God and the Armenian homeland
and loyal to the land it lives in, and always looks forward to his/her
native country's interest." Chairman of the Board of Trustees of
the Armenian school, Engineer Munir Tarbnian, said that the number
of students in this school is 443 students from kindergarten stages
through high school, adding that the number of the Armenian community
in Kuwait is estimated at about 3500 people.
Meanwhile praising Kuwait's generous hospitality to many foreigners,
wishing the country and its people additional prosperity and great
wealth.
The Armenian school opened its doors in Kuwait during the era of
Minister of Education, at the time, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah,
at the beginning of the academic year 1960/1961 in a modest building
in Salmiya, under the name of the (Arabic Armenian School), where the
number of students and time does not exceed 90 students from Armenians
