PUBLIC AWARENESS DOCUMENT ON THE RESULTS OF THE DEFENSE STRATEGY REVIEW HAS BEEN PUBLICIZED

"Formed under the conditions of the war launched by Azerbaijan against
the legal and peaceful self-determination of the people of Nagorno
Karabakh, the Armenian military units managed to impose peace on
the rival and establish ceasefire," Armenian Defense Minister Seyran
Ohanyan said in an address regarding the Public Awareness Document
on the Results of the Armenian Defense Strategy Review.
Minister Ohanyan states that the main objective of the defense reforms
launched in 2005 was to increase the military capacities of the system
to resist the existing challenges to Armenia's security.
"The economic and financial conditions, as well as regional
instability, were complicating the process of modernization of
the armed forces. Nevertheless, the rapid development of our armed
forces is our well-thought choice, which derives from the necessity
to guarantee the security of the state and people, ensure or event
impose peace, if necessary," Minister Ohanyan stated.
Experts from partner countries provided considerable support throughout
the process of Defense Strategy review. The countries include Latvia,
Poland and France. The Armenian Defense Minister expressed special
gratitude to Germany, the United States and the United Kingdom for
the constant expert assistance.
"As for our discussions with our partners from the Russian Federation,
they were related not only to the perspectives of development of
the Armenian armed forces, but also the role and mission of united
forces of the Republic of Armenia and the Russian Federation. The
expert assistance of the above-mentioned countries is invaluable,"
Seyran Ohanyan said in a statement.
