AZERBAIJAN DENIED RUSSIAN REPORTER ENTRY FOR A VISIT TO KARABAKH

A reporter of the Russian radio station Echo Moskvy has been denied
entry to Azerbaijan for what appears to be an earlier visit to Nagorno
Karabakh without Azerbaijan's ascent.
Sergey Buntman, the deputy chief editor of Echo Moskvy told Russian
news agency Interfax that he was denied entry because "he had been
in Karabakh and had an interview with Karabakh's president [Bako]
Sahakyan."
Buntman also said currently he is in Yerevan and is planning to
return Moscow.
Azerbaijan, which considers Nagorno Karabakh as an inseparable part
of its territory, is believed to refuse entry to all foreigners who
have visited Karabakh without its permission.
Commenting on the incident, Alexei Venediktov, the Chief Editor of
Echo Moskvy, said he is planning to send a letter to Azerbaijan's
President Ilham Aliyev on the issue.
He also said that "reporters can visit various countries without
letting the authorities".
"Reporters are tasked with collecting information, analyzing and
telling about what happens," Interfax quoted him as saying.
Venediktov also said he has planned Buntman's visit to Baku and is
not going to cancel it.
