YEREVAN. - Latvian Latspeceksports Company may be involved in the
sale of offensive weapons and missile complexes to Armenia, which
were purchased in Moldova, chas-daily.com reports. The copy of the
agreement on arms states Moldavian MOD and Latvian company as sides.
The Latvian company purchased the weapons and sold them to Armenia,
Azerbaijani diplomats said angrily to Latvian MFA. Currently the case
is run by the security police.
The case was brought forwards several months ago due to the fact
that the jet, on which the weapons were transported, was intended for
Libya. Thus, Latvian company was blamed for the supply of Moldavian
arms to the civil war participants in Libya. However, it was later
revealed that the jet was only transporting weapons to Armenia,
Neka Person reports.
It was officially stated that Armenia purchased old and useless for
direct operational use weapons of Moldavian army. However, the weapons
turned to be quite modern. Besides, the weapons were purchased quite
cheaper. The real price was $8 million, while the agreement mentioned
only $3 million. Supposedly the rest of money was given as bribe to
the Moldavian military officials.
It s noteworthy, that Latvian company had no permission by Latvian
MFA to purchase arms.
