At a Friday rally in Yerevan the opposition Armenian National Congress
(ANC) demanded the immediate resignation of President Serzh Sargsian
and early presidential elections.
"Today the ruling regime foiled the talks with the ANC and actually
renounced the democratic road of the country's development. We have
nothing else left to do than to demand the immediate ouster of Serzh
Sargsian," ANC coordinator Levon Zurabian said at the rally.
"Neither do we have any other alternative than to give up the failed
talks with the authorities by conducting a velvet revolution in the
country," he said.
Zurabian also said that the opposition has all the instruments to
carry out the process of ousting the president and holding early
presidential elections.
According to observer estimates, some 4,000 people are taking part
in the rally in Freedom Square in the heart of Yerevan.
