Even though the Robshin Company has stated that bowing to public
pressure it will cease construction of a hydro-electric power plant
at the base of the Trchkan Waterfall, environmental activists warn
that the company can renege on its promise at any time.
The organizations "EcoLur" and "We Won't Keep Silence" Youth Civic
Initiative have issued a joint statement arguing that the move by
Robshin is nothing more than a public relations ploy to redirect
attention away from the issue.
The groups say that the company is under no legal compulsion to
permanently halt construction given that the water usage permit and
the positive opinion of environmental impact assessment signed by
Nature Protection Minister remain in force.
They call on the government to nullify such documents.
