Many Armenian citizens, especially young people, members of the NGOs
and civilian initiatives have struggled for Armenian waterfall Trchkan
for nearly a week. Armenian Government accepted a decision to build
a hydro electric station on the waterfall. The activists considered
that the wonder of the nature must be protected. Young people have
stayed at the waterfall with tents for already a week.
And yesterday the "Robshin" company, which would fulfill the building,
spread an announcement according which the electric station will
not be build. "We have taken into consideration the assistance by
the Armenian Ministry of Nature Protection and we also do not want
to cause different political comments. That is why we will stop the
works and will withdraw the technique from the territory.
At the same time we hope that solutions will be found during the
further discussions", the announcement says.
Note that the activists do not believe in this announcement and will
not leave Trchkan until Armenian Government changes its decision.
Protest action in front of Armenian Government building will take
place also today.
