Experts say the staff changes in Armenia are an attempt by Serzh
Sargsyan to form his own system of power without Robert Kocharyan's
"participation". But, Robert Kocharyan was not the only obstacle to
Serzh Sargsyan, who one year ago did not hide his intention to run for
the second term. Different ways were chosen to fight each barrier -
depending on the instruments the obstacles used.
Since the rules of fair election competition in Armenia do not work,
it is practically impossible to achieve change of power through
elections. Hence, forces with ambitions to conquer the power in the
country use "non-standard methods".
One of the barriers for Serzh Sargsyan in his way to the second
term was Levon Ter-Petrosyan. His main weapon against Sargsyan was
the energy of the national rebellion, which was a real threat. 3
years ago, the energy could destroy anything, and Serzh Sargsyan knew
that he did not control it. But, Levon Ter-Petrosyan controlled it,
who slowly releasing the steam and stifling it, lowered the blood
pressure and leveled the threat of popular revolt.
It is not important whether this was a result of a deal or lack of
adventure risk by Levon Ter-Petrosyan, but the fact is that this
weapon threatens Serzh Sargsyan no more. Now, it is evident that the
dialogue with the Congress, to which Sargsyan agreed, was a good way
to level this risk.
The second barrier was Robert Kocharyan, who, for his character, chose
a "non-traditional" weapon - hidden fight and not open confrontation.
Kocharyan tried the chasing method (as a good hunter) and psychological
pressure. He tried to trap Sargsyan through information leakages,
visit to Moscow and rumors on conspiracy etc. But Sargsyan, knowing
Kocharyan's character, was not caught and went straightly to the
"den" of whom Kocharyan hinted - Putin. Receiving the "approval",
he actually destroyed Kocharyna's hunting strategy.
The lack of any open resistance by Kocharyan's team evidences that
truce was concluded between Kocharyan and Sargsyan. Sargsyan, actually,
secured himself from this danger too.
What other threats are awaiting for him in this way to the second
term of office?
