Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan today called for an overall
solution regarding the fate of the Trchkan Waterfall; a topic that
has been widely covered in the Armenian press due to plans calling
for the construction of a hydro-electric power plant at the site.
Sargsyan's decision would allow for zoning changes in the area and
setting aside one hectare of land as "a unique site for special
protection."
"We have a Sustainable Development Council for such matters. Members
of the environmental community and others participate in it. We are
aware that the environmental community has recently raised concerns
about the Trchkan Waterfall resulting from certain government
decisions. The Ministry of Nature Protection has reviewed the matter
and has submitted a series of directives to the president that will
neutralize such risks," stated PM Sargsyan.
