Mariam Artenyan has been without her family for already 10 months,
because her husband and her sons, Razmik, Samvel and Srapion Artenyan,
are under arrest charged with violence against a police officer. By
the way, Razmik and Samvel Artenyan are former police officials.
Mariam Artenyan told us that the persecution of their family has been
planned since the beginning by the judge of the Court of Cassation
Artak Barseghyan and his brother, Vedi Mayor Varuzhan Barseghyan.
Artak Barseghyan and Mariam Artenyan are shareholder of the same
building, and "Barseghyan always wanted us to present them the adjacent
territories of the building", she says.
She presented the scenario of the arrest of Artenyan men, according
to which, in 2011 police officers of Vedi Roman Misakyan and Ruben
Saghatelyan provoked a conflict with Srapion Artenyan, beat him up
and then arrested him, his father and brother.
She says that the Chief of Police regional department Margar Melkonyan
personally beat up her other son Samvel Artenyan. According to Mariam,
first the Chief ordered Samvel to get on his knees before him and
when he did not obey, they threw him on the ground and beat up.
Mariam's husband told her during a meeting that the Vedi police
Chief was ordered by Margar Melkonyan to instruct all the police
officers to give false testimonies against Razmik Artenyan and to
launch criminal proceedings.
A couple of days later, former Chief of Police Alik Sargsyan ordered
to sack Police Lieutenant Colonel Razmik Artenyan and Major Samvel
Artenyan.
The woman notes that her husband is a dignified person, he did not
do subservience so now they revenge on the whole family.
5-10 years threaten Razmik and Samvel Artenyan, while Srapion Artenyan
can pay a fine of 300-500 thousand or pass behind bars up to 5 years.
Mariam says there are good police officers who give true testimonies,
but no one pays attention to them saying that they are our friends.
Lawyer Seda Safaryan has already sent the case to the European Court
on Human Rights to prove law breaches. The lawyer mediated the Court
of Cassation to quash the verdict of the Court of General Jurisdiction
and launch criminal proceedings against Chief of Ararat Police Margar
Melkonyan, Vedi Chief Police Sevan Kocharyan and police officers Ruben
Saghatelyan and Roman Misakyan for beating and illegally keeping the
detainees in the police, and abuse of their official position.
