NOT WITH SARKOZY, SAYS MINISTER

Turkey will not choose France as the builder of its second nuclear
plant as long as Nicholas Sarkozy, the prime minister of the European
country, stays in power, according to the Turkish energy minister.
"[Cooperation in the nuclear energy field] with Sarkozy would be
troublesome. We are dealing with a large project that cannot be
detached from international relations. I cannot ignore politics. I
cannot not remain deaf to Sarkozy's allegations on the so-called
Armenian genocide," Minister Taner Yıldız said in a recent interview.
"Nuclear relations cannot stand such politics."
Turkey might also experience friction with France regarding Libya, the
minister said. "We may have troubles in any field where we cooperate
with Sarkozy."
Yıldız also said Turkey had closed its doors regarding the
transportation of gas from Israel to Europe via Turkey. However,
energy could be used as a unifying tool should Israel apologize for
killing nine Turkish citizens in the Mavi Marmara incident last year,
Yıldız added.
