HEAD OF MOUNTAIN JEWS RELIGIOUS COMMUNITY SEMYON IKHILOV MAKES SPECIAL STATEMENT

Baku. Parvin Abbasov - APA. Head of Mountain Jews Religious Community
of Baku Semyon Ikhilov made a special statement concerning the Russian
radio program "Utro s Vladimirom Soloyovim Polniy contact", where
the program presenter Vladimir Solovyov used expressions incompatible
with the mankind values and journalist ethics, against the Republic of
Azerbaijan and Azerbaijani people. APA reports that the community head
called Solovyov's statements as hypocrisy, provocation and slander.
Ikhilov said Solovyov unsuccessfully attempted to compare Azerbaijanis'
attitude toward Armenians with Holocaust. He said Azerbaijanis had
never committed genocide acts against Armenians: "On the contrary,
the Azerbaijani people suffered from genocide in the present territory
of Armenia and the occupied Azerbaijani territories".
The statement underlined that there is no national and religious
discrimination in Azerbaijan and the representatives of all people
are living here in good neighborly conditions: "Opinions, hysterical
replicas of Russian journalist against Azerbaijan and Azerbaijanis
caused the anger of Jews living in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan is an
economically strong, civil and democratic country. Kind-hearted and
well-wishing people of this country meet everyone with hospitality
and respect everybody, who comes to Azerbaijan with peace, good
intentions".
Ikhilov called Solovyov to apologize to Azerbaijani state and people.
The above-mentioned program was on air on November 1. Solovyov is
Russian citizen of Jewish-origin.
