Ragep Zarakolu is among the 44 intellectuals arrested in Turkey.
Turkologist Hakob Chakryan told a news conference today that Zarakolu
is one of the best friends of Armenia who devotedly fought for the
recognition of the Armenian Genocide. He said cases have been evoked
against him for studying the Armenian genocide.
Zarakolu is being accused of terrorism. "It is an attempt to shut
the months of intellectuals who were going to raise their voice
of complaint for acting afterward," Chakryan said, adding that
Zarakolu's spouse was arrested for translating "40 Days of Musa Dagh"
and publishing it. After two years she was released but died afterward.
"It is strange that there is no active response from the international
community," he said.
