With more than 100,000 Armenian tourists visiting Iran every year,
it is necessary to consider the possibility of lifting visas between
the two countries, according to the Iranian foreign minister.
At a news conference held jointly with Armenian FM Edward Nalbandya,
Ali Akbar Salehi addressed bilateral cooperation issues, emphasizing
that the countries do not use their full potential.
"There are hopes that the trade turnover will reach $300 million,
but that is not satisfactory since Armenia has many products we wish
to import. The same goes for Iran," Salehi said.
Speaking of bilateral strategic cooperation, he focused on programs
concerning the energy and transport sectors and the use of boundary
waters, including the plan to construct a hydropower plant on the
river Araks.
"The strengthening of ties in the economic sector will contribute
to a closer relationship between the private sectors," the Iranian
official added.
