EASTERN PARTNERSHIP: NATIONAL & EUROPEAN DYNAMICS CONFERENCE OPENS IN YEREVAN
Tert.am
10.11.11
The 2-day conference Eastern Partnership: National & European Dynamics
has opened in Yerevan.
The conference has been organized by the International Center for
Human Development (Armenia) in cooperation with the EU delegation to
Armenia. This is the 7th annual conference on European integration
aimed at enhancing the role of civil society and NGOs in policy- and
decision-making. Among the participants are delegates from Armenia,
Czech Republic, Turkey European and international agencies.
Speaking at the conference, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian
touched on the progress made by civil society and NGO's in European
integration. Raul de Luzenberger of the EU delegation to Armenia
pointed out European problems. He expressed the confidence that the
Euro will gradually get adapted to the new requirements.
German Ambassador to Armenia, Mr. Hans-Jochen Schmidt stressed the
need for reopening of the Armenian-Turkish border. In the context of
free trade development, it will afford Armenia ampler opportunities.
This, in turn, will stimulate the EU member-states' interest in
Armenia. Economic integration will certainly bring about changes,
which should not be feared. On the other hand, it requires rejecting
numerous stereotypes, Mr. Hans-Jochen Schmidt said.
