Tert.am
10.11.11
A homeless man has been found frozen to death in Armenia's second
largest city of Gyumri.
The police identified the person as Rafik Shavarsh Gevorgyan who
was found in the vicinities of a cottage district near the Charles
Aznavur Square.
Gevorgyan, 65, was said to have divorced his wife and used to spend
nights in the open air.
According to Shirak Kentron (Centre) - a local non-governmental
organization - currently there are four people in Gyumri spend the
night outside, in Ani district. Two of them are a couple.
Speaking to Tert.am, Vahan Tumanyan, the NGO's president, said that
they could not find them at the place that a taxi driver said he had
seen them.
"In this country, where a human being has no price, no one is
interested in their fate," said Tumanyan.
"We want to find these people, to try supporting them in solving their
problems. They have neither a cottage, nor even a demolished hostel
[room]," said Tumanyan.
Further, he said that a few days before they had helped one of homeless
people in Gyumri to find shelter.
