Elman Abdullayev: "Thereby Armenians demonstrate that they are trying
to prolong the "status-quo""
Armenians intend to build a city in the occupied Zangilan region for
Armenians who once moved from Azerbaijan to Armenia. APA reports
quoting the Armenian press that the Armenians plan to make such
proposal at the 3rd forum of "Armenian refugees of Azerbaijan and
Nakhchivan" which will be held in the Armenian Assembly of America.
The forum participants will address the international organizations
and ambassadors of foreign countries and raise an issue on building
of new city in Zangilan. The declaration on the situation of Armenian
refugees will be presented to OSCE member countries.
Member of Forum's Initiative Group Andres Gukasian said that 100
000 Armenians, living in Azerbaijan, became refuges in 1990s. The
construction of new city in Zangilan for Armenians will be held for
account of involvement and financial assistance of Armenians who
moved from Azerbaijan.
Gukasian also said the city's situation on Iran border would increase
the city's opportunities. Thus the city can be both free trade zone and
the opportunities will be created in border and oil refining sphere.
Commenting on the news on building of a new city for Armenians
refugees in Zangilan, Spokesman for the Azerbaijani Foreign
Ministry Elman Abdullayev told APA that this information was the
next provocation of the Armenian side: "These lands are historical
Azerbaijani territories. The holding of any construction in the
occupied territories of Azerbaijan is illegal and contrary to the
international legal norms. Thereby Armenians show their destructive
position and demonstrate to the world community that they are not
interested in peaceful settlement of the conflict and try to prolong
the "status-quo'".
