Moldova has annulled a contract to sell arms to Armenia, the Moldovan
news website Moldownes reported, citing the country's Defense Ministry.
The Ministry, according to the website, confirmed that the supplies
of arms have been halted down and that the deal is being annulled.
Moldovan Defense Ministry Spokesperson Alexander Zhosan, in turn,
told the Azerbaijani news website 1news.az that the deal will be
declared void. He also said that the contract has no legal problem.
"But given the political implications it has been decided to suspend
the supplies," said he.
It comes after Moldovan Defense Minister Vitaly Marinutsa declared
on Thursday that Moldova is going to ship the remaining part of arms
under the contract to Armenia.
Speaking at the parliament he had called on MPs to base their decisions
on facts and legal documents rather than on media reports.
"I hope that the contract's implementation will continue at the
shortest possible period. There is no single suspicious provision in
that contract, and I think we should complete it," Marinutsa had said.
