Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Hovik Abrahamyan
officially declared about his resignation during today's sitting
of the Parliament. He will now concentrate on the activity of the
headquarters of the Republican Party of Armenia in preparation for
the parliamentary elections of 2012.
The resignation must be approved within five days after it was
officially submitted. After that the MPs will elect a new Speaker. No
tense competition is expected, since only 5-6 months are left till
the parliamentary elections. The press now mentions two candidates
- incumbent Vice-Speaker Samvel Nikoyan and head of the Republican
faction Galust Sahakyan.
