YEREVAN.- Outgoing UK Ambassador to Armenia Charles Lonsdale confessed
that his marriage was the most important result of his four-year
mission in Armenia.
Talking to journalists on Monday, the diplomat, whose wife is the head
of Embassy's press service Mariya Sadoyan, stressed that he has many
personal contacts in Armenia and will definitely return to Yerevan.
Lonsdale said he had traveled much throughout Armenia, from north to
south, and was impressed by Armenia's nature, adding that intends to
promote tourism development.
Asked whether appointment of a couple to the post of UK Ambassador
is an insulting hint at his marriage, Lonsdale said he finds nothing
insulting in the appointment.
"They are very active and hardworking, I used to work with them in
Moscow 10 years ago," he said adding that for UK foreign office is
important not to divide the couple and allow them working together.
According to him, it is important for Armenia to use the experience
of two diplomats ready to make a contribution to development of
Armenian-British relations.
Charles Lonsdale will be replaced by couple Mr. Jonathan James Aves
and Ms. Katherine Jane Leach.
